physical body can relax into a more functional, balanced state. The
flower essences can and do have profound effects on the physical
body. The avenues through which they reach the physical body are the
mental and emotional realms.
One of the best ways to experience the flower essences is to use
Rescue Remedy™, a wonderful combination of five flower essences
developed specifically for shock and trauma.
The five flowers include:
• Clematis
• Rock Rose
• Impatiens
• Star of Bethlehem
• Cherry Plum
I’ve provided a brief introduction to these five essences, so that you
can begin to get the “flavor” of the remedies and how they work. Notice
how each approaches shock and/or trauma from a different direction;
each has a different way of offering support.
Clematis vitalba – Clematis
• Dreamy, drowsy, not fully awake, no great interest in life
• In illness, makes little or no effort to get well
• May look forward to death
• Acute – typical of shock
• Deeper presentation – depressed, even suicidal
Helianthemum nummularium - Rock Rose
• Emergency, for cases that appear to have no hope
• THE “rescue remedy,” according to Bach
• Accidents, sudden illness, trauma, violence when the person
is frightened or terrified • If unconscious, can moisten the lips with the remedy.
• Can be helpful in the dying process, when someone is afraid,
viewing death as total annihilation.
• Name derives from Greek Helios, the sun, and the Latin word
for coins. Restores sun-like forces of courage to the human
soul to meet tremendous challenges.
Impatients glandulifera - Impatiens
• Quick in thought and action
• Wishes everything to be completed without delay
• Difficult to be patient with people who are slow
• Wrong to waste time
• For acute: anxious to recover quickly
Ornitholagum umbellatum - Star of Bethlehem
• Shock of any kind tends to drive us out of our bodies.
• “I jumped out of my skin” or “I was beside myself.”
• Shocking news, the loss of a beloved, fright following an
accident
• Soothes and comforts, which helps to alleviate pain
• Star of Bethlehem unifies body and soul again so that the
natural healing processes can take place.
Prunus cerasifera - Cherry Plum
• Fear of reason giving way, of doing fearful and dreaded
things, not wished and known wrong, yet there comes the
thought and impulse to do them
• The soul tries to protect against this fear of losing control by
tightening its grip, which only leads to more pressure and
stress.
• Cherry Plum gives mental strength and confidence.
Consider using Rescue Remedy™ in the following situations:
• Physical trauma
• Before and after dental work • After shocking news
• Grief
• Insomnia
• Anxiety
• High-stress situations, e.g., before a performance, test, job
interview, public speech
